On Critical and Reflective Thinking Skills |
I truly want to be the best teacher that I can be. In soothe, I want to be the best at anything I choose to do. In both my person and professional lives, I always think about whether I did the right thing, whether I could have done something better, whether I should have done something differently, and whether I did well. I also think a lot about why I do things. The industry buzzword for thinking about thinking is metacognition. As a teacher it is important to thing about what you have done. I often ask myself questions: Did that lesson go well? Did the activity work? What about did or didn’t work? Were my directions clear? Did I sound confident and interest in the subject? Did I connect the students to the text? Was the text the right choice? More than just asking these questions, however, is the answer. It is the process of critically and reflecting thinking about the answers that make me become a better teach. Some of the ways I think critically and reflectively upon my teaching are through Zen mediation, keeping a classroom management log, writing in a journal, keeping track of professional evaluations, and asking for students' feedback. |
