On Professionalism |
There are five essential ways I demonstrate professionalism: (1) By dressing for success, (2) By turning in paperwork on time andd attend all important meetings, (3) By adhering to Georgia Professional Standards, (4) By having memberships in professional organizations and subscriptions to magazines, and (5) By knowing that I am the students’ teacher, not their friend. At the beginning of the most recent school year, several staff meetings were devoted to our school’s vision of professional attire; in accordance with the new policies, I have thought consciously about whether I take pride in my appearance and profession, and now dress not only professionally but stylishly as well. Following the rules is very important, and meeting deadlines and turning in work on time is very important to me. Attendance and punctuality at all important meetings, whether the annual county-wide meeting or a weekly meeting with my department, are also crucial. I also feel it is important for teachers to demonstrate commitment to their profession by belonging to clubs and organizations that reflect this commitment. Lastly, I demonstrate professionalism in my interactions with the students. Although I want each and every one of them to like me, my objective is for them to learn, not to be my friend. |
